ON PAPER > Travels in the South of France

(1990-1991)
Pastel paintings on paper that celebrate the color of the sun and the intense light of the region. Smearing layers of pure, radiant pigment on paper creates space and depth. As the layers build, a warm physical and spiritual presence emerges, made out of marks of colored dust. This intense saturation of color is embedded within tiny loose particles. It gets denser and denser, gaining substance and texture, and telling stories. For her pastel work, Yael works with pastel chalks manufactured by Sennelier, the French brand used by Gauguin, Degas, Van Gogh and Monet.
