Galapagos Memory: The Uncertainty of Form
Galápagos Memory: the Uncertainty of Form 2015-2017.
Oil paintings that relate to the primal, unfamiliar nature in the Galápagos Islands. Yael’s experience had a visceral impact on her, as if she were witnessing evolution unfolding. She worked in layers as she created and disrupted forms, using brushes and palette knives. This process resulted in a tactile surface that echoes the subject’s physicality. The color palette is limited to four colors, with black and white delineating space, motion and form in chiaroscuro, and expressing the depth of time. Sadly, this reserve of untouched nature and barren beauty is already impacted negatively by climate change and unregulated tourism.
